Mikki&Iacq, I don't like horror movies, but I could recommend Wong Kar Wai films to you, In The Mood For Love and 2046. They are both sensory films, meaning the films can be enjoyed apart from the story. The visuals and music are awesome. Are you familiar with WKW??? Those two films are under the foreign category.. ITMFL is in Cantonese and Mandarin, 2046 is in Cantonese, Mandarin and Japanese. They are actually parts of a trilogy, the first film is called Days of Being Wild, I don't like it as much, but helpful to complete the story. WKW also did Chungking Express and Fallen Angels, I don't like them, but they are also what I consider visual films.
WKW did a recent visually stimulating film which not under the foreign genre, it's called My Blueberry Nights with Jude Law, Natalie Portman (I am a fan) and Norah Jones (her film debut).
Russian Ark is special in another way. This is single shot movie, i.e. full movie is done thru continuous shot from a single camera, not cuts. Around 1000 actors. Flawless!
Just in case you haven't yet discovered him, I think Alexsandr Sokurov's films are very visually stimulating. Netflix spells his name two different ways so his films are separated onto two lists. Plus, I know of at least on film of his where no director is listed: Father and Son.
I've only seen four: Father and Son, Mother and Son, Russian Ark and The Second Circle. Loved all four and look forward to seeing the rest of his films. Have only bought Russian Ark, so far. That'll probably change soon.
