There goes the neighborhood... Movies about the destruction of Earth

Call me what you will but nothing makes me happier then a meteor screaming towards earth on a collision course.. What do you think is the greatest Earth destruction movie of all times? Also what is your favorite manner of destruction, alien, natural, or other?

For me Deep Impact, 28 Days Later (may not be total world destruction but I think it fits), and Independence Day are my top 3.

Permalink Reply by Whatchawatchin on May 9, 2008 at 11:18pm: That's the whole thing. The world is going to end, depending on his choice. It's a really tough movie to "get". It's pretty out there and there's the whole "Philosophy of Time Travel" thing that is spelled out a lot more in the director's cut, but that's a far inferior version of the film..lol. There's all of that controlled living and controlled dead, the objects and portals...I love it, but I've literally seen it over 50 times. I always recommend for this one, to really understand wth he's doing you have to watch the original theatrical cut, then watch the deleted scenes and listen to Kelly's commentary. If you're still intrigued (most people are hooked by this point if it really resonates or hate it with a passion if it doesn't) then the director's cut really kind of beats you over the head and has a lot more information. I'm not sure the "Philosophy" stuff is necessary to get the picture that everyone is someone controlled to make matters come about before the cataclysm, even though they don't know what they are doing.; ▶ Reply to This
