problems with Vista Watch Instantly

Help. I am having trouble, I have windows vista premium and have been able to watch movies from netflix in the past. Now when I click the play button it says I need to install an active X control and leaves me on that screen with no install button or no pop up on the control bar. It will sit on that page and do nothing and I can not watch any movies. I have reinstalled everything, cleared my browser and add ons and reinstalled and nothing works. it works fine on my wife's XP laptop.

As I have found out in the past few days your mistakes were few but maybe unsolvable. Your first is expecting Vista to work properly. Your second mistake is expecting the Netflix watch instantly feature to work with Vista, especially if you are running a HD video card. It seems Netflix will not stream anything higher in resolution then standard 480 resolution with Vista. Netflix just "solved" my instant viewing problem by suggesting I just never watch anything in high definition ever again so I can view their instant movies. I bet if you change your video resolution down to 480 yours will work as well. It seems with being overly paranoid about piracy, Netflix now has so many restriction with MRD and COPP that you should just revert back to an old Fred Flintstones low tech computer with VGA output (yes the Netflix tech support actually told me this would be best for me) and never even think we should be worthy of watching HD anything ever again.

That is the only way I know to watch Netflix on my tv, which doubles as a computer monitor. How do most people do it?

I also have a computer that runs XP pro and it has not problem running Netflix streaming video even if the resolution is set to a HD level. This is a problem with Vista and HD cards when DRM and COPP are being used to protect the media.

No, I have run everything. I have used microsoft live support, AMD/ATI support as well as Netflix tech support. The issue is with Netflix and their agreement with the MPAA for copy rights protection using DRM and COPP protections with their streaming service. There is also a problem with netflix driver and vista. There are no updates that will solve this problem if you are running Vista and using a HD card and driving 1080p resolution to your plasma TV or HD monitor.

@Trixracer---
I'm not having any issues with instant watch on Vista... do you have UAC turned on or off? I have mine turned off, one of the first things i do actually, but that my be what's holding you up.

Control Panel -> User Accounts -> Turn User Account Control on or off
