Things from TV/Movies that scared you as a kid!

I think this was from a Tales from the crypt show...not sure, but it was about a group of friends that goes swimming in what appear to be a lake, or at least a large body of water. They swim to the wooden sort of raft but then a big black oil starts to creep up to them and swallows each of them one by one....scary... To this day, i don't think I can watch it again. Does anyone know what I am talking about? There was also a story about some children going to a house of sorts - very Hansel and Gretel.

I remember that movie. Watching the trailer for Creepshow 2, you can see the blob like thing in the lake. Good campy horror but not as good as the first one.

Ummm my Google-Fu is not that good. What happened to the children? Are you sure it was children and not just one child? I think it was also Creepshow where this one kid was going to be roasted by the woman who lives in this one house but he kept telling her stories just to keep himself alive longer.

I need a little more to search for this one :-)

The Raft was the best part of that movie but the "How 'bout a ride, Lady" was pretty good, too.

Was it Debbie Harry as the witch in Hansel and Gretel that was going to cook the kids?

That's Stephen King's story "The Raft", for anyone who wants to read it.

his short stories always seem to make better movies than his novels do...waiting for "The Long Walk" to be made.

When I was a kid, Nick Clooney hosted a local late-night monster movie show on WKYT in Lexington, KY and the beginning montage along with the soundtrack used to scare the crap out of me. Here' s a link about it: http://sixtiestv.com/clooney.htm

There was an episode of one of the popular Japanese show's of the 60's & 70's, maybe Johnny Socko or Ultraman, where kids would drink from water fountains and die. That kinda freaked me out.

Oh yeah.......and I'm suprised I didn't need therapy from this Bionic Woman scene..

I was scared by "The Toxic Avenger", plenty of gore in there, and as a kid everything looks real. I didn't know that it looked fake when that guy's head was crushed under the spike with weights on it at the health club. I've since become a huge fan of Troma's movies and their cheesiness. But it was about 15 years after this scared me that I re-discovered them, and became one of the biggest fans. Left a mark on me though, not one I'm sad to have.
