If you don't have Firefox, then you'll need to first install the program. Here's the link to the download page. http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/

Here's a step-by-step on how to use the Instant Watch feature with Firefox in a quick and easy way. Once all these steps are done, it will work just like if you were using Internet Explorer.

1.Go to this website

2. Click the green Install Now (Windows Button)

3. Follow the directions, restart firefox

4. Go to "Tools", then Click on "IE Tab Options"

5. Click on the Tab called "Sites Filter"

6. Copy and paste this URL including the * at the end: http://www.netflix.com/WiPlayer?movieid=* in the box where it says "URL:", click Add, then the "Apply" button, then "OK" (Link updated: 8/10/08)

7. Go to any netflix page that has the "Play" button, click it and enjoy!

[As of 3/9/08 - IETab won't work in the Firefox 3 beta As of 3/11/08 - Beta 3 delivered an IETab update that works perfectly.]

[This will not work for Linux or Mac]

Do you use Instant Watch?
Then check out the Instant Watch Treasure Hunters group. Also, take a look at the lists of titles with less than 1,000, 5,000 and 10,000 ratings, as well as a list of titles with more than 1 Million ratings.

Good job posting this wowwee, I'm not sure how well known the "IE Tab" was, but I'm certain that no one wants to use Internet Explorer at all. Thank God for Firefox, it does so much to help MY experience online.

Oh, and I did know about IE Tab (Found it a few months after Instant Watching program began, had to find a solution rather than using IE), but I commend you for bringing it to others attention :D.

Thank you! Well, I'm sure no one wants to use IE at all, but "what can you do"? Yes, good thing that there's firefox (just make sure that all the updates are installed). Did you know about the ability to press "Play" without having to right click and opening the page in IE Tab?

To believe this you would have to be a conspiracy theory fan: Find the most arcane, convoluted and least-evidenced supposition and push it as the most likely (again, without evidence). Assertion does not make a thing so (except to the weak-minded, who forget that convincing requires evidence).

It's much more likely they don't have the budget for extra programmers to serve the <5% of the public that has a Mac and probably <2% that has no PC too. And again, all these people can rent videos by mail so why complain about something extra that only the tiniest minority cannot access -- though if you joined in the past year, you knew that before you joined?

/quote Of course I'd love to see Netflix actually get off their butts and fix the problem themselves /quote

Yeah....the limitation with Firefox....IS WITH FIREFOX. If you want Firefox to work with Netflix, please tell Mozilla to get off their butts instead. However, they are never going to make it work with Netflix. To do so, they would have to configure it exactly like IE, in which case....why the hell would you have a separate browser if they're both the same. Firefox IS Firefox, because they're not IE.

Also have IETab news for you. You're emulating IE. You're running an IE window inside of Firefox. The only benefit this gives you, is you don't have to open up a separate browser window. You just saved yourself 2 clicks. Oh, and you also just opened up a portal to viruses as easy to plow into as if you opened up IE itself. You haven't found some magical way of making Firefox compatable with Netflix. You've opened IE, simple as that.

I just downloaded Firefox 2.0 about 2 hours ago. I don't have that "IE Tab Option"(?) choice under the Tools drop down. The last choice just says "Options...". NOR is there any Tab anywhere that says, "Sites Filter". What should I do? OH PLEASE HURRY?
Thanks so much!

I'm pretty sure you have download a Firefox plugin. Someone will come along and clear it up, I'm sure.

Do a websearch for IETab, and you should be able to find the plugin to download. You do have to have this plugin installed.

Step #1 in the directions gives the link.

Does anybody know if this counts as an additional computer?

An older thread had someone describing how watch instantly can be used from only 4 different computers. He used 2 browsers on one computer and that counted as 2 computers on his account. His 2nd browser was not Firefox.

Hmmm, how could a browser = a computer?

Reply to This

In reality (of course) it doesn't. However, according to a conversation between the guy in the original thread and Netflix customer support, the number of "computers" is determined by "the number of items in Windows registry that are accessing Watch Instantly"

Here's the old thread - what's your opinion?

I appreciate the effort of someone creating IE Tab, but if I have to boot into Windows anyway it is no additional trouble to use IE. That is the only reason these days I use Windows. I haven't tried Wine to run IE in Linux yet. By the way, I did complain to Netflix about the Windows-only support. They are not listening.
