Last night was, The Bridge on the River Kwai. I didn't care for the ending; and I'm probably not alone in that but, I think it was an excellent movie. One that definitely stands the test of time.

The famous scene was shot from various angles and several cameras were used, then it was shipped via air freight to London for processing. However, the film didn't show up and they had to go on a world-wide search for the missing film of the very costly one-time variety. To their horror, they found the film on the tarmac in Cairo sitting in the extreme heat of the Egypt sun. They assumed it ruined the heat-sensitive film, but to their delight (and ours) the film was undamaged.

I rented the unrated version from Netflix as my little own personal protest to Cinemax (I have Cinemax) debuting it this past Saturday but showing the PG-13 version.

Anyways, I loved it. I love Bruce Willis and Justin Long (since Jeepers Creepers). Although I do admit that it's been such a long time since I saw the first 3 Die Hard's, they could be better. But still this was a great action flick.

Match Point surprised me; it was pretty good. It surprised me as I am not really a fan of Woody Allen.

I wouldn't ask but you directed us to your review. I watched it when it came out 4 years ago and gave it 3 stars also. I'm not sure about seeing the new one.

Permalink Reply by Aces / Chawk on July 8, 2008 at 8:26pm: Yeah, I like to write reviews but only get motivated if I really like the movie or really hate the movie or if there are only a few reviews on it. However, sometimes Netflix puts that little pop up on the page asking for a review on a movie that has hundreds already and sometimes I write a couple of lines.

Anyway, you have influenced my decision so your review was helpful. I think I will see Guantanamo since you say it's better than White Castle. The third star I gave that movie was just because I like White Castle burgers. Now if it had been Harold and Kumar Go to In-n-Out Burger it would have been a 5 star movie. :-)

I saw you are looking forward to In Bruges - I saw it and really liked that one.

Permalink Reply by Rayny on July 9, 2008 at 2:01pm: That's it. I've been waiting and hoping that Audition would become an instant watch, but I just added it to my queue and will get the hard copy. I really don't mind reading the subtitles when my face is 2 1/2 feet from my monitor, but I've not watched any movies with subtitles on the TV (just got a 46" HDTV). A Tale of 2 Sisters has just shipped, so if I can read that, next week, I'm getting Audition.

As for Ichi, well, the previews did me in on that one. When he took a drag of that cigarette and blew the smoke out those slits in his cheeks, my stomach just churned. I love the a good creep factor, but it has to be fake. I'll pass on Ichi.
