Remakes that are better than the original

I just watched both versions of 3:10 to Yuma. I think the new one is better than the original. It got me thinking, what other remakes are better than the original films?

"My uncle drew the poster art for the original...he's best known for doing the star wars/empire posters"
Wow, that's cool!

I agree on "Man on Fire"; additionally, I thought that the remake of The Manchurian Candidate was a bit more engaging for me than the original version.

Though not a remake, exactly, "The Wiz" is way better than "The Wizard of Oz" in my opinion. The singing, dancing and whimsy of the former just blows the latter away.

Did you watch Tin Man on the sci-fi channel? It's a "modern re-imagining" of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz story. It had Zooey Deschanel as DG (Dorothy) and Neal McDonough as the titular Tin Man. It was a pretty good little miniseries. I'd recommend it.

OT -- gotta love the new buzz word that hollywood is using - 're-imagining'. =)

Im waiting for the remakes of the Star Wars and Star Trek movies already.
Yeah, I know I dont have much longer to wait.

Well, Roselind Russell did Auntie Mame in the 60's, and Lucille Ball remade it in the 70's....I prefer Lucy's version, although Roselind is truly awesome in her own right.

Well... hmmm... what about sequels and prequels?

Because I really liked Carrie 2, The Rage - I thought it had some fun little nods to the original in it.

And lets see... ok, I know some folks are gonna buckle over in agony after I say this... but... The remake of Hairspray was maybe a little better than the original... at least it was better filmed... if you have an aversion to Low-Fi John Watersey films like I do. (It's just too bad that they had to lose Penny's psychiatrist and the hair-ironing beatniks!)

And I don't think ANYONE would disagree that the new Batman movies are FAR better than previous attempts.

But 3 remakes that should have been aborted with a wire hanger or put to sleep with a dirty needle are:
The Stepford Wives
Bewitched
War of the Worlds

The above three films, coincidentally star either Nicole Kidman or Tom Cruise... who can be good in anything except remakes and movies with eachother, evidently...

Well, I wouldn't have said anything, but this statement just begged for it - I HATED Batman Begins. Thought it was simply awful. I'd take Batman & Robin over that one any day of the week...

And I actually liked the remake of The Stepford Wives, but I haven't seen the original yet so I can't say whether it's better or worse. But yeah, I thought that War Of The Worlds was pretty bad...

I still prefer the Michael Keaton Batman movies myself.

The remake of Stepford Wives was wonderful.

You honestly cant be serious! The remake of Hairspray was horrible!
Look at my review of it on NF.

Hairspray, great! Especially Niki Blonsky

Batman Begins - the best of the Batman movies to date.

Stepford Wives remake - terrible
