Damaged DVD again :(

It's a fourth time I receive a damaged dvd from Netflix and since I don't have a lot of time for movies, they've just f...d up my evening again!
I will consider to go back to Blockbuster:much faster service and not so many damaged dvds!
Netflix even doesn't have online customer support,so I have to call and wait :( yikes!

Sorry to hear that you have a damaged disc. Customer Support may not be online but the wait time is rarely more than a couple of minutes. They are well trained and will take good care of you. For my trouble last month they gave me a couple of bonus rentals.

One thing I do as soon as I receive a movie is to check out the disc for any obvious breaks or scratches, so I can immediately report it as broken/damaged and request another. I'll sometimes spin them up in the DVD player just to make sure they'll play.
I had a recent issue with a movie where none of the 3 copies NF sent would play in my DVD player. Playback skipped around and video was all 'bit-mappy.' They would all work in my computer, but my setup there isn't comfortable to watch movies. I reported them all as unplayable, but finally had to use a 'back up' in order to view the movie on my DVD player. (My top-of-the-line $27 DVD player may have something to do with this, but there was just something screwy about that one title). This whole experience tied up a slot in my queue for about 2 weeks. If this happens again, I'll get more vocal about it.

Netflix inspects the discs before sending them out so that broken ones aren't shipped. The problem is more likely with your USPS or carrier (or a devious neighbor).

A lot of people complained about them not having phone Customer Service so they switched to phone customer service.

More than likely the post office machine is eating up the discs. That's a shame!

Hi and welcome to our Netflix "Member to Member" forum. A place for paying subscribers to communicate with each other, not an online company owned nor supported site.

While many of us can sympathize with your issue, Netflix is not the one sending you broken DVDs. The damage occurs when the post office sends them thru the high speed mail sorting machines.

Yes, I've been getting more and more damaged discs in the mail too. Netflix should really switch to reusable shipping boxes or something with more padding. It is becoming frustrating. I'm tempted to look at Blockbuster but I won't due to the fact that they censor certain DVDs due to content which they feel is immoral. This is something I abhor and refuse to give them one dime! When large corporations, like Blockbuster and Walmart, start to get into the censorship business, that's where I draw the line.

Good for you!!! Stick to those non censorship guns! lol I agree though!

Netflix has experimented with many different types of packaging (yes, they once used an air-pack and even a cardboard sleeve) but the costs were too prohibitive. The trade-off of course would be higher monthly fees, and I really don't want to pay more.

Thanks for that info. I didn't know they did that.

Blockbuster sends in the same kind of envelopes and has similar breakage stats. As Manuel pointed out on another thread, only GreenCine ships in padded envelopes and has lesser breakage. Unfortunately GreenCine is also a lesser service, better used for finding some rare titles, than as a quick turn rental co.

Manuel also lamented about how GreenCIne has now stopped using padded envelopes because they were too expensive.

I hear ya on that. The last damaged DVD I received I sent back and they returned the exact same defective disc back to me. I sent it back again and they sent it back to me again. Then I gave up on seeing that one. I look back and laugh, but it peeved me at the time.

I've been on Netflix for quite a while and unless it's a brand new release or a very unpopular title, I always clean the discs before I play them. I've only had maybe 6 that wouldn't play at all, but considering that I've viewed over 400, it's not a bad ratio. Sorry to hear about your luck.

Is the Blockbuster service pretty much like Netflix with the addition of local stores? I've been thinking about changing over for a while, but never really looked into it. I couldn't imagine having direct support..
