The Stop Uwe Boll Petition

Uwe Boll has pledged to stop making movies if one million people sign an online petition. There are currently over one hundred thousand and counting. His movies are so bad I am willing to try anything.

I enjoy a terrible movie now and again. Then we have something to call terrible. I still want to check out Postal.

"How about you just don't watch them."

Germany was trying grow its movie industry. So they set up a deal to cover losses on German made films. So, Uwe made the worst possible films he could and the German government paid him to do it.

From Wikipedia: "Boll is able to acquire funding thanks to German tax laws that reward investments in film. The law allows investors in German-owned films to write off 100% of their investment as a tax deduction; it also allows them to invest borrowed money and write off any fees associated with the loan. The investor is then only required to pay taxes on the profits made by the movie; if the movie loses money, the investor gets a tax writeoff."

The problem is that he makes movies based on video games. These games have a lot of fans. Those fans are upset because Uwe has ruined the chance of any good movies ever being made based on those games. Also many people are coming to believe that movies based on games are guaranteed to be bad, thus reducing the chance of any game-based movies in the future.

Interesting point. I certainly expect any game inspired movie to be terrible, but that's only because up until this point every single one of them has been terrible...Boll-directed or otherwise.

He doesn't bother me in particular, yet. He hasn't made a movie of any game I am a fan of yet. I played Dungeon Siege, but not a big fan.

The only non-Boll movies based on games I have played are the Final Fantasy movies. I watched one of them and thought it was ok, not great, not awful. Haven't seen the more recent one yet, Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. It has an average rating of 3.9 stars, so I have some expectation of it not completely sucking.

I rather enjoy seeing the gamers get all flusterpated when Boll is set out to turn one of their beloveds into garbage! lol Makes me as a horror fan all warm and fuzzy inside!

You might enjoying watching the footage of Uwe as the surprise keynote speaker at PAX (one of the bigger game expos right now). About 80% of the audience walked out. About the only people who stayed were the media and some hecklers.

I very much enjoyed that! Just reinforces the warm fuzzies!! Thanx!

This has got to be another scam to raise publicity, I mean the guy freakin beat the heck out of any critic that would show up. You have to have bad movies to know what a good one is though.

Yeah but do they have to be as bad as one of Boll's movies?

Like Walter Matthau said in the Supreme Court comedy First Monday in October, "Crap has a constitutional right to be crap." Of course, Bloodrayne is so bad it might be considered treason...
