Evil Herbivore

The FIRST film that made a HUGE impression on you

Whether it was the film itself or the experience around it....
Let us know what made you go "wow!" for the first time and really wonder what this movie thing was all about, besides entertainment.....

Mine was:
I always went to movies w/ my father as a child. I never remember being asked what I wanted to see, but we rarely saw children's movies.
One day he took me to see a movie I hadn't heard of: The Right Stuff
From the graphic depictions of testing to each carefully crafted character - I was hooked.
This was something different.
I fell in love with the maverick in Yeager (Sam Shephard), the golden boy pressure of Glenn (Ed Harris); and the neglected Grissom (Fred Ward).
And it had an intermission! (This is when movies still did & you could smoke in a movie theater)
I came out of that theatre full of wonder and still weeping over the loss of the men in the fire featured only as a mere mention at the end.
This was no "Apple Dumpling Gang"

HI!! im new... Well, I was going to say Firestarter, because I have a bit of an obsession with that movie, however the first movie that I remember EVER going to see was E.T. I was around 5 or 6 years old, and there was a movie house right down the street which ONLY HAD ONE SCREEN!! (Can you believe that)!! This is a vague memory that I have, but I think they showed a cartoon before E.T. started. The scene that I hold in my mind (as probably the best scene) ever; was when they were trying to shock E.T back with the heart paddles and Drew Barrymore Jumped! I read later in Drews book (little girl lost) that her jumping in terror was not in the script.. she just did that because she was only six and she really thought that E.T. was dying.
My mom took me to see E.T.. My mom has passed away now.. She died when I was rather young.. Anyway, i remember mom crying during the movie.. I didnt cry, because I wanted to be a brave 5 year-old! So when we got home, I sorta chastised her and I said, mommy did you cry, and she said yes, and I said.. in a proud way, WELL I DIDNT!!!

Good memories! We had a lovely theatre in my home town, red velvet seats, thick brocade curtains, gilded ceilings with all kinds of detail, balconies galore. It's long gone ...

Speaking of ET - I saw it in movie theaters the first two times. There were few dry eyes to be found ....

When I lived in England every ticket you bought at the cinema after 3pm was an assigned seat, and you had to choose from this screen at the counter where you bought your ticket. point being: we were always ushered to our seats

I remember ushers with little flashlights escorting us to our seats.
When in CZ we saw the Big Lebowski in Ostrava CZ in an old theater converted to a dollar movie theater. We sat in velvet burgundy armchairs. FYI the Czecks totally got the humor of that movie even when subtitled.

I was just a kid, but 'Stand By Me' sticks out in my memory.

I would say that Star Wars and Jaws had the biggest long lasting impact on me as a kid.

For me it was Star Wars: Episode IV: A New Hope. It opened the doors of math and science for me and, subsequently, led me to explore many different subjects relating to aviation and the various NASA and pre-NASA projects.

math? science? NASA? geez! all I got was an unhealthy obsession with SciFi costumes and props.
