I found " Are You Being Served?" on PBS 11:00 p.m. Monday thru Friday Probably 15 years ago. It was so bizarre and different, I watched more and was soon hooked, and have loved the show ever since. When I joined Netflix years later I found the genre British television comedies, and watched "Are You Being Served?" in order this time, and then moved on to others. How did you guys and gals find your love of British Comedies?

I started watching 'Only Fools and Horses' from the beginning courtesy of Netflix. Our PBS station never carried it before, but suddenly it is playing the later episodes late on Sunday nights, so I'm watching episodes ten years apart. We haven't had much new here in awhile comedy-wise. Mostly our station runs and re-re-re-runs the standards Vicar of Dibly, Keeping Up Appearances, Last of the Summer Wine, Fresh Fields, Are You Being Served? and they even brought back Good Neighbors for awhile. I did enjoy Clatterford last fall, I think that was the last new show we saw. There is a drama I've become hooked on, The Royal. Love that show.

Say hello to Del Boy for me. I think I'll go back and see them all over again.

I just revisited Butterflies. Netflix has been a godsend to see shows never broadcast here like Mulberry. That one was charming, especially the first series.

First Exposure was Benny Hill years and years and years ago on PBS. Mom would get upset that we were watching until she started laughing too. Dad was always onboard. Funny thing was Benny Hill and Monty Python were my only exposure for many years. I had no idea there was so much more.

Way Back on an island in SC when I was a kid in the late 60s-early 70s, our Public Educational station would occasionaly run Brit Coms, and I always found them charming and extremely funny.
About 12 years ago, thanks to the expansion of cable channels, I discovered them again.

I remember one day we had left the tv on the PBS channel after the our youngest daughter finished watching Teletubbies.

When I turned on the tv, a very strange, bizarre program was airing. I could not figure out if it was a sci-fi show, a comedy or both. I saw a blob talking to an android...I could not stop watching. I became totally glued to the mini-marathon of Red Dwarf.

I had remembered seeing some of Monty Python, Benny Hill, Fawlty Towers when I was younger, but Red Dwarf slammed me hard-in a good way. The episode was Camille.

The next show I stumbled upon was on BBC America...Father Ted-ohmygosh I laughed so much I could not talk. The first episode we watched was Hell. (These are small...those are far away)

When I was in Highschool, our Driver's Ed teacher (go figure) showed us Monty Python INSTEAD of the gory driver's ed movies! I have been hooked ever since-it was like the best discovery-I just get giddy at the brits. My fav show include Little Britain, Fawlty Towers, Ab Fab and I have a bunch of others in my queue.

Also, what was the name of the show that was set in a department store? Any Ideas? I wish I could offer more details of who might have been in it-I caught it on PBS years ago once in a while.

Try "Are you being served?"

Another you might try for brilliant educated writing is any of the P.G.Wodehouse playhouse series with John Alderton and Pauline Collins. Just perfect.
